Hundreds of cyclists turned up Sunday morning in the streets of Vancouver to join American cycling legend Lance Armstrong in his fundraising tour for cancer research.
Armstrong, the seven-time Tour De France champion and a cancer survivor, were in Vancouver for a two-day "Tour of Courage" organized by the Cancer Foundation of the British Columbia province aimed at raising money and awareness on cancer research.
On Saturday, Armstrong and 50 local cyclists raised 2 million Canadian dollars (2 million U.S. dollars) during an 80-kilometer stretch in the city of Kelwona, B.C.
Armstrong won his first Tour de France championship in 1999, three years after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He went on to win six more titles and was named the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year in 2002 and the Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year for four consecutive years.
