Fourteen of the 15 top Zimbabwean soccer referees who had failed a FIFA fitness test just a week ago finally came good at the University of Zimbabwe on Saturday, according to The Herald.

The 14 match officials, including six women, are now eligible to handle matches without any hassles following their successful completion of the physical test, the newspaper said on Tuesday.

Among those who passed the test are top referees Tendai Bwanya, Tichaona Chapfika, Ronald Mwanjira, Isiah Huni, Pascal Zata, Tiri Zharo, Notai Murindagomo and George Chiunya.

The women's group of Sabelo Sibindi, Helen Masumba, Rhodha Rushezha, Jennifer Ncube, Russina Majo and Stella Ruvinga also got it right on Saturday after having found the going tough on September 16.

FIFA Referees' Committee secretary Brighton Mudzamiri said only one match official Edson Nkau did not take part in the re-testing but his name has still been retained on the FIFA panel.

Zimbabwe has Tendayi Bwanya, who has been on the FIFA panel since 2003, Christopher Manuel (2003), Kenias Marange (1998) and Thabani Mnkantjo among the centre officials.

Ngoni Bouyed, Cosmos Chafa, Chapfika, Masimba Chihowa, Nkau, Cosmos Nyoni and Alfred Zindove will run the lines on the FIFA panel.

"There is need to have more women who will replace the current crop once they retire and we would also want to groom more men in the 25 to 35 age group," Mudzamiri said.

He also revealed that the referees committee, still embarrassed by the failure of some of their top referees on the first attempt, was proposing to have two physical fitness tests from next year.
