The 4th Rubik's speedcubing championship started in Budapest on Friday, with hundreds of competitors from 32 countries and regions participating, local media reported.
Hungary, which hosted the first such event in 1982, fielded the biggest team, altogether 55 competitors.
The championship features 17 events, including some in which competitors try to solve the cube while blindfolded or with one hand.
The current world record for solving the classic cube which has six sides of different color with nine tiles each on each side is 9.86 seconds.
The mechanical puzzle was invented by Hungarian engineer Erno Rubik in 1974.
