The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has announced on Tuesday that it would set up a regional center in East Africa to nurture the emerging talents, following Ugandan Duncan Mugabe's recent victory in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) circuit.

ITF development officer for Eastern Africa Prince Madema said he had been fighting to have the centre come to the region without success, but with the emergence of talent in the game within the zone, he had all the justification of pushing for the centre to come to East Africa.

"Players from Kenya and Burundi reached the boys' semi-finals in Bujumbura. In the Uganda leg of the event, Mugabe reached the finals. He went ahead to clinch the event in Nairobi to send signals that talent abounds in East Africa," he said, quoted by New Vision on Wednesday.

Madema said it was no longer a secret that Ugandan tennis has reached its peak after being overshadowed by Kenya for decades, adding that with Mugabe now leading the park, the sky is the limit for Uganda.
