Sports journalists from all over the world will visit Beijing Olympic Games venues on Saturday as part of the ongoing International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Congress.
Some 350 sports journalists will be showed around in the Olympic Green, the Main Press Center serving accredited journalists during the Games and the National Stadium, nicknamed the Bird's Nest on Saturday.
The four-day meeting starting on Wednesday, an annual one for the 143 members of the AIPS, saw its opening ceremony on Thursday when AIPS president Gianni Merlo expressed his condolence to the victims in the earthquake in Sichuan province and made a donation of 20,000 U.S. dollars on behalf of the Association.
"We feel your grief and sadness at this unfortunate time," he said.
He also stressed media's role in sports world.
"In many ways we are the guardians of fairness in sport. It is our duty to promote the value of this because sport is vital for the younger generations, not only as a physical exercise but related to culture and development of peace and understanding between the people and the world," said the experienced sports writer who is going to cover his 19th Olympic Games when the Beijing Olympics kick off on August 8.
There will be 21,600 accredited journalists from over 200 countries and regions reporting the Games in the Chinese capital.
