Defending champion John Higgins edged world number one Ronnie O'Sullivan 5-4 in a second round rivalry at the British snooker Grand Prix in Glasgow on Wednesday.
After 4-3 down, Higgins managed to pull back and beat O'Sullivan for a quarter-final berth.
"I thought I was all over the place and felt really on edge," Higgins told the BBC.
In other contests Wednesday, Northern Ireland's Mark Allen beat Jamie Cope 5-3, Australia's Neil Robertson sped past Ken Doherty 5-2 and Joe Perry beat Barry Pinches, also 5-2.
Chinese Ding Junhui will meet Stephen Maguire of Scotland on Thursday.
