With two weeks to the start of African Traditional Wrestling Championship in Senegal, Nigeria is still shopping for funds to attend, an official with the Traditional Sports Federation of Nigeria (TSFN) said.
Clement Iyaluegbeghe, secretary of TSFN, on Monday in Nigeria southwest Ondo state said the federation had no money to travel to Dakar.
"The federation does not have any money to prosecute its participation in the tournament," he said.
According to him, the federation was awaiting the response of its appeal to the Bayelsa state government and the National Sport Commission (NSC) for funds.
He said the federation had invited 10 wrestlers for camping in Akure for the July 2 to July 10 competition in the Senegalese capital, and that four were already in camp.
Nigeria will take part in the 65, 75, 85, 100 and 100+ kg weight categories.
Host Senegal, Niger, Mali, Togo, Ghana, Benin, Burkina Faso and Mauritania are among countries expected to participate in the championship.
