The 17th Pan-Arab Scholastic Games will be held for the first time in Jordan from August 20 to September 1, local daily Jordan Times reported on Wednesday.
"The event will be the biggest gathering of students from 18 Arab countries who will compete in eight sports," said Mohammad Othman, the games director and head for sports in Ministry of Education.
"We, as Jordanians, are really proud of hosting such an event where we will witness the development in sports in various Arab countries," Othman added.
The event is organized by the Ministry of Education, Jordan School Federation, Jordan Olympic Committee and other governmental organizations.
"Jordan is well known for holding and organizing big events such as this and we have almost finished everything related to the games and hopefully everyone will enjoy the competitions," Othman said.
The 2007 Pan-Arab Scholastic Games was held in Algeria and the 2009 games will be in Kuwait, according to the report. Source:Xinhua
