From July 1, the first core group of volunteers for post offices, gas stations, parks, and public places will officially start their duties, beginning their service for the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games. During the Games, there will be over 1 million volunteers on duty.
On July 20, volunteers from all fields of work will begin their work to keep Beijing residential areas, various businesses, and public places in good order, promote civilized behavior and a pristine environment, aid those in need, and conduct other volunteer service activities.
At present, volunteers have confirmed 10 key points of service revolving around city operations, service for residential areas, and various businesses. These include maintaining order in the transportation system, serving as security personnel, providing medical and hygiene services, helping those in danger and need, protecting the environment, and serving the public park system, gas stations, and the postal system.
