25th SEA Games closes with Thailand topping medal tally

The 25th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) came to a successful close in Vientiane on Friday after ten-day competition in 25 sports, with Thailand on the top of medal standings.

Standing Deputy Prime Minister of Lao People's Democratic Republic and Chairman of the 25th SEA Games Somsavat Lengsavad officially closed the Games amid cultural and artistic performances.

The final overall medals table reads Thailand on top with 86 golds, 83 silvers and 97 bronzes. Vietnam is second on 83-75-57. Indonesia is third on 43-53-74.

The following are Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Brunei and Timor-Leste.

The host Laos ranks seventh on 33-25-52 tally. Timor Leste won three bronzes without gold and silver.

The Games was a true sports extravaganza as 39 new games records were set here in athletics, fin swimming, shooting and swimming.

The 25th SEA Games participation of about 5,000 athletes and officials from 11 countries of the Southeast Asia

The Games, themed in "Generosity Amity Healthy Lifestyle", featured 25 sports including football, swimming, volleyball, wushu, track and field, tennis, golf, shooting, billiards and snooker, weightlifting and many others.

The closing ceremony witnessed the handover of the SEA Games flag to Indonesia which will host the 26th SEA Games in 2011.
