OneAsia - Asia Pacific's first consolidated professional tournament pathway for elite golfers - today announced the appointment of Mr Sang Y. Chun as its new Chairman and Commissioner.
Mr Chun is an industry veteran with extensive experience in sports sponsorship and securing multi-million dollar television deals across the globe, involving many sports most valuable properties
Eminently and internationally respected in the sports and media industry, Mr Chun is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer at SBS International Inc.
In his 20 years tenure of media rights procurement, Mr Chun is renowned for his strong personal and influential relationships with sports administrators and media identities around the world, including with the US PGA Tour, LPGA, ESPN, FIFA and the IOC, amongst others.
His close relationship with the PGA Tour recently culminated in a 10-year sponsorship deal of the SBS Championship on the PGA Tour, in addition to a multi-year media rights deal for the PGA Tour in South Korea.
"In his role as Chairman and Commissioner of OneAsia, Sang Chun will play a pivotal role in growing OneAsia and strengthening its ties across the region as well as around the world, and he has the full support of the China Golf Association in driving this," said Zhang Xiaoning, Executive Vice President & Secretary General of the China Golf Association and Director of OneAsia.
"His depth of knowledge and key relationships in international sport will be central to OneAsia, delivering on our mission to provide the region's best players with maximized opportunities to develop as individuals".
"I truly believe in the OneAsia vision to develop an elite-playing pathway right here in Asia, a true force in international golf that in time will sit comfortable beside the PGA Tour," says Mr Chun. "And I am very excited at the opportunity to assist OneAsia on this journey."
In 2010, OneAsia will stage 11 tournaments for a total of US$13 million in prize money, ultimately seeking to provide players in Asia with an alternative pathway to the PGA Tour and the European Tour.
