Hungary won gold in the men's relay event at the Modern Pentathlon European Championships in Debrecen, Hungary, on Tuesday.

The win completed a relay double after their women's team had won the title on Monday.

After a slow start, the Hungarian team (Adam Marosi, Robert Nemeth, Robert Kasza) recovered to win the opening fencing event and after coming second in the swimming event, three times 100 meters, led the field of nine teams.

The third event saw the gap close between the Hungarians and the chasing Czechs, Lithuanians, and Ukrainians. In the final run- shoot combined event however, the Hungarians, helped by a powerful run from world champion Marosi, extended their lead to a comfortable victory.

In a tight race for the silver medal in which the teams changed position several times, the Polish team (Bartosz Majewski, Symon Staskiewicz, Tomas Chmielewski) which started the run-shoot in fifth position pipped Lithuania (Edvinas Krungolcas, Justinas Kinderis, Tomas Makarovas) for second place.

Hungary finished with 6206 points ahead of Poland in 6086 points, and Lithuania in 6062.
