Cricket Australia will decide on Friday whether or not to keep former prime minister John Howard as its nominee for the role of vice-president on the International Cricket Council (ICC), local media reported on Wednesday.
Howard was put forward by the boards of Australia and New Zealand as their candidate but rejected by the ICC board. It is the first time the ICC has rejected a nominee for the vice- presidency.
Cricket Australia (CA) spokesman Peter Young said there is no plan at this stage to find another candidate.
"At the moment that's a hypothetical question," Young told ABC News.
"Our board will meet on Friday to discuss the fact that the ICC board has twice refused to support Howard."
Members from the Asian and African bloc rejected Howard's candidacy at an ICC board meeting in Singapore in June.
ICC members take it in turn to nominate a vice-president who will serve for two years before serving another two years as president.
Young said Howard is the only candidate from Australia and New Zealand currently in the running.
"We will be meeting to discuss what we do next," he said.
"When we meet we will be considering the advice from New Zealand cricket that the other candidate so to speak, Sir John Anderson, has now advised that he is not available should we wish to speak to him."
