Davis Cup final between Argentina and Spain will be played from Nov. 21 to 23 in the city of Mar del Plata, some 400km south of Buenos Aires.

The Committee of the Davis Cup and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) determined on Friday the final to be played in that city, not taking into account the request of the players to play in Cordoba.

"This decision was taken after a meticulous study of the plans previously proposed by the Argentine Tennis Association, and the reports collected after the inspection visits of the representatives from the ITF," the committee said in a statement.

Argentina had proposed to play the final in the "Orfeum Superdomo" of Cordoba, and as the second option they had proposed the municipal sports center "Malvinas Island" of Mar del Palata, both on speed court and indoors.

The Davis Cup Committee is formed by Juan Margets (Spain), Pierre Darmon (France), Neales Fraser (Australia), Enrique Morea (Argentina) and Alan Schwartz (U.S).

"This is one of the most important decisions we have taken during the more of 10 years of my presence in the Davis Cup Committee," Margets said, who also is the ITF vice president.

"There were many factors to be taken into account including the desires of the players to play at an indoors court, the attempt to achieve also the minimum requisite of have a minimum place for 12,000 people as it is required at the regulations and other factors that added all contributed to the success of the Davis Cupfinal," the ITF said.

"The Committee unanimously decided and believed that Mar del Plata was the most appropriated place for the final 2008," ITF said.

This resolution caused great discomfort on Cordoba's citizens who believed the decision would be on their favor.
