Marathoner Tomescu adds gold for Romania, China's Zhou with bronze"It's was a great performance. I'm very happy to win a gold medal, but especially the gold," said Romanian marathoner Constantina Tomescu on Sunday morning.
Tomescu has led all the way since the 25km mark, and finished in 2 hours 26 minutes 44 seconds.
"At the World Championships in Canada, everybody said I couldn't run, but I showed today what I can do," said the 38-year-old marathoner.
"In the last kilometres, I was looking back because I didn't want to lose the medal," she said. "I kept looking back to check, because I felt a little bit of fatigue in my legs."
