Dwight Howard pulled off an excellent performance in the overtime to give the Orlando Magic a 116-114 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday, putting the home team 3-1 ahead in the East Conference finals series.
Howard scored 10 points in the overtime period, including two free throws with 21 seconds remaining. He finished with 27 points and 14 rebounds overall.
The Magic also made a team record 17 3-pointers, including 11 in the second half and overtime.
Rafer Alston added 26 points and Rashard Lewis and Mickael Pietrus had 17 each for the Magic, who can punch their ticket to the NBA finals with a victory in game five on Thursday in Cleveland.
James had 44 points to reach the 40-point barrier for the third time in the series, but all those games have ended in losses for the top seeded Cavs.
