Vietnam has set a target of playing in the two final games of the ASEAN Football Federation Championship (AFF Cup), Southeast Asia's bigger soccer event, slated for December in Thailand and Indonesia, according to the Vietnam Football Federation on Wednesday.
The Vietnam Football Federation is selecting a coach for the national squad with an annual salary of some 200,000 U.S. dollars.
Its Australian coach Alfred Riedl resigned following public criticism over his side's poor performance at the 24th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand last December.
At the AFF Cup 2006, both Vietnam and Malaysia finished third, and Singapore beat Thailand 3-2 in the two final matches in Singapore and Thailand.
The AFF Cup (formerly Tiger Cup) is held biennially.
