Tracy McGrady of the Houston Rockets kept his promise as the Rockets tied a franchise record with their 15th straight win, a 103-89 victory over the Denver Nuggets on March 3.
When Yao Ming, the center of Houston Rockets, was out for the season due to a stress fracture in his foot, Tracy McGrady said he would lead the team. Sunday night he showed it and scored 22 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists in the game.
The winning streak is the longest in the NBA this season and reaches the longest one in franchise history when the Rockets won their championship in 1993-94 season.
It was Houston's third straight win since losing All-Star center Yao Ming for the season and its 19th win in the last 20 games. The Rockets won their last six games by 10 points or more, extending a franchise record. After this win the Rockets take the fifth berth in Western Conference standings.
"We're having fun," said Shane Battier of the Houston Rockets, "We are playing together as a team and it's been fun." Battier had 20 points while holding Carmelo Anthony to 7-of-17 shooting.
"We just keep proving to ourselves we have a lot in us," said Rafer Alston, who had 16 points and eight assists with just one turnover. "Every game people count us out and say that will be the game to end the streak, but we dig deep and find something inside ourselves to pull each other together," he added.
Dikembe Mutombo started the third straight game in place of Yao and had five rebounds, three blocks and two points in 24 minutes. Luis Scola scored 18 points and grabbed 14 boards for Houston, and Carl Landry added 12 points and five rebounds.
Carmelo Anthony scored 19 points, and Allen Iverson scored 17 points for the Nuggets, who had won two in a row. Kenyon Martin had 12 points and 10 boards for Denver.
