Real Madrid striker Raul Gonzalez spoke on Sunday of his satisfaction at setting a new goal-scoring record for his club.
Raul scored two of his side's four goals as they swept past Sporting Gijon on Sunday afternoon. They were the 308th and 309th goals he has scored for the club and make him Real Madrid's all time top scorer, beating Alfredo Di Stefano, who netted 307 times in his Real Madrid career.
"I am happy, I have finally got past 'Don Alfredo'," said Raul after the game.
"Now I aim to continue scoring more goals to help Real Madrid. I am very happy with this win," said the 33-year-old on the club's website.
Raul also commented on the importance of the win, which took his team to within 10 points behind Primera Liga leader FC Barcelona.
"It is an important win that allows us to take points off Barcelona. It is one of our best performances of the season and we have to carry on like this."
"Barcelona is in great form, but there is a long time left in the season and the important thing is for us to open a lead on the teams that are behind us," said Raul.
