Cristiano Ronaldo said on Saturday that he hoped signing for Real Madrid will make him the best player of all time.

His 95 million euros signing from Manchester United by Real Madrid this summer has already made Ronaldo the most expensive player in the World.

Now the winger, who will be officially presented to the press and public in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Monday, wants to live up to the expectation.

"My aim is to go down in history as one of the best and if I can have the chance to be the best ever, then that would be perfect. I want to go down as one of the best players in history," he said in an interview with sports paper Diario Marca.

"Real Madrid has always had the best players in the world, (Zinedine) Zidane, Raul, (Luis) Figo and Ronaldo…it is a mythical club and it has won all of the titles you can win. That is why I wanted to play for Real Madrid one day," he said, explaining his transfer from Manchester United.

The one-off signing of Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the sporting stories of last summer. Now the winger is delighted that it has finally happened.

"It was an indescribable feeling and I felt very relieved that things finally worked out and there was a happy ending. All of the world knew that I wanted to play for Real Madrid," he said.

Ronaldo is seen as an arrogant player on the pitch and he believes that the world record 95 million euros transfer fee paid by his new club is money well spent.

"I think it is a fair price. If that is the price that Manchester and Real Madrid agreed, then there is nothing more to say. Great players cost a lot of money and if you want to buy them, you have to pay that price."

"I am very happy to be the most expensive player in the world," commented Cristiano Ronaldo.

Although he has left Manchester United after six seasons at the club and he has no doubts that he owes his success to Manchester's veteran coach Sir Alex Ferguson.

"He has been a sporting father for me and one of the most influential factors on my career. I have to thank him, he showed me how to think and the way to take decisions in my life."

"He has been key and he will always have a special place in my heart," said Ronaldo.
