Uganda bids to host Beach Volleyball World Cup qualifiers

The East African country of Ugandais bidding to host qualifiers for the Beach Volleyball World Cup for both the Africa Sub-Zone Five and Zone-Five due 2010 and 2011.

The chairman of the Uganda Beach Volleyball Council (UBVC) Robert Mofaht Masaba was quoted by the Daily Monitor on Thursday as saying that Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) has filed an application for the qualifiers.

According Masaba, the written application expressed Uganda's willingness to host the sub-zone five games in April 2010 at Lido Resort Beach in Entebbe.

"The tournament will involve five countries including Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and we the hosts (Uganda). This phase will be a precursor for the zone-5 elimination games that again Uganda has requested to host the subsequent year in April 2011 at Lido Beach Entebbe," said Masaba.

The 2011 tournament will bring together a bigger party of 11 countries including Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, Djibouti and Somalia. This phase will lead into the continental elimination stage.

The inaugural FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup will first be played at a continental level (Sub-zone, Zone) and the final phase will be played at a global level.
