The return of Cuca to Fluminense has helped the head coach to lose only two games in 13,producing one of the best winning percentages of coaches in the second half of the Brazilian soccer championship.
The only losses suffered by Fluminense while under the control of Cuca have been to Gremio and Flamengo. The fans of Fluminense have found a certain relief due to the recent run of good fortune, but are coming to grips with the reality that their team is almost certain to fall into the second division for the 2010 tournament.
With 30 points, Fluminense remains in dead last place. Despite Cuca's .487 winning percentage, the team is running out of time. With only six games remaining, Fluminense and its fans will have to hope for nothing short of a miracle to preserve the team's presence in the first division of the Brazilian Championship.
Fluminense's next challenge will be against Cruzeiro at the Mineirao stadium in Belo Horizonte on November 1.
As of Saturday, the bottom four teams in the tournament that stand at risk of being lowered into Serie B are Fluminense with 30points, Sport with 30 points, Nautico and Santo Andre - both with 32 points. Botafogo remains on position out of danger, standing in16th place with 35 points.
