Real Madrid President Perez supports coach Pellegrini

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez said under fire coach Manuel Pellegrini would finish the season as club coach when speaking on Italian television this Sunday.

Pellegrini has been criticized by a section of the Madrid press after a run of results that saw his side win only one out of five games before this weekend.

A 4-0 defeat in the Kings Cup to third-tier side Alcorcon this week led to speculation that Pellegrini's job was on the line should Real lose to Getafe on Saturday night.

However, two Gonzalo Higuain goals assured a 2-0 win and also earned Pellegrini his President's support.

"There have been a lot of names of great coaches appearing in the papers, but we are happy with Pellegrini and we are certain that he will end the season in a positive manner," Perez told Italian TV Station RAI2.

"We respect the press and everything that it says, but it is the club that decides what happens and we are quite happy as we are. We need to show patience and I am certain that Real Madrid will enjoy a marvellous season," assured Perez.
