Former FC Barcelona coach Johan Cruyff was named as the coach of the Catalan representative soccer team this Monday.

The Catalan Football Federation, which aims for full international status with FIFA, organizes one or two non-official games every year against national teams, with one of those matches usually being played over the Christmas period.

It will be the first time that 62-year-old Cruyff has coached aside since leaving FC Barcelona at the end of the 1995-1996 season.

The former Dutch international, one of the all-time greats of the game, is still a symbol at Barcelona, where he was a local hero both as coach and as a player.

Cruyff was once credited to build the "Dream team" in Barcelona that won the Spanish Primera Liga for three consecutive seasons between 1990 and 1993 as well as the 1992 European Cup.
