A message posted by a registered user on China Forum ignited hot debates among forum users on unemployment among young people with higher education.

On July 12, a registered user on China Forum "lotos" left a message with the title "graduation equal to unemployment" and saying, "Today in China, it's so difficult for a undergraduate to find a nice job that many of them have to get a master's degree. And what is the future? Could a master find a favorite job in such a competitive and saturated society?"

"lotos" thinks that most people want to get a stable job and a good salary, and everybody has his own value and expectation. What he believes is most graduates lack in experience, but not talent!

Some of the replies are as follows:

Everybody is the master of himself: [Man26]

China is looking for qualified personnel. There is a shortage of qualified people in Guangdong province. Be yourself and follow your own goals. Everybody is the master of himself. Do not rely on others to do your job and to tell you how to live your life.

You are not a slave of your boss. Since he cannot do your job without losing money, he hired you. So actually he is your "slave" to an extent. And you are still the master of yourself - whether you stay as a slave with your boss or an abusive parent or a non-caring government - it is all your decision. Even if your boss chooses to shut down the business, then there are still customers around who want to buy those products and services.

Everyone is the slave of opportunities: [Confucius]

I like John Kennedy's inaugural address where he said to his fellow citizens, "ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country", nevertheless I realize that a country owes her citizen an opportunity by which he/she can set foot towards a decent life before she can ask what he/she can do for her.

I don't think lack of work experience is the real cause of the high unemployment rate faced by these graduates, who form one of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged groups in this society, where so few opportunities are offered to so large a population. The real problem is that the government should have delivered some basic level of social security to young generations.

In a sense, everyone is the slave of opportunities. If you had read history, you would find that those who succeeded were not always more capable than those failed. The struggle between Octavius and Antonius in Roman history serves one of the most convincing examples that history can present to its students how powerless a person can be when facing his/her fortune. All is not gold that glitters. Let's remember this. A Taoist may say that all are the puppets of their Creator. In a sense, it is true.

Graduates themselves responsible for the employment: [bbjsbbpz]

I do know how hard it is for a graduate to find a job the moment he or she leaves college. As far as my classmates concerned, most of them seem pessimistic to find a good job because of their relative poor skill and technology. Even so, there still are some of classmates are capable of hunting a good job in some software or hardware company or enterprise.

As for me, since I have made up my mind I will take the postgraduate exam next spring, I do not concern much about job-hunting. Personally speaking, it's graduates themselves, not just our society or our government that are responsible for this high unemployment rate. Actually, as far as I know, there are still many corporations lack of stuffs and requiring graduate to devote their knowledge as well as vigor into their positions. Arm yourself with knowledge and experience, you will sure find your suitable job.

Chance is created by ourselves: [125.36.143]

The problem is how the employer can judge you are qualified. You should promote yourself to the company but not wait for the opportunity. The chance is created by yourself. For instance, you can call the resource department of the company which you wish to work for. You may be refused, but this is just the beginning, stick to do it until one company will be affect by your insist.

It is life, who can change it? [219.142.140]

I went into university in 1993, from then I knew I would have a life that I have never wanted, but this is life. I hadn't any power to change it. I would study knowledge that I am not interested in, and went the job I do not favor. But it is the life I couldn't change it so I studied hard, worked hard. It is the life and destiny.
