Four solar-powered seismic sensors have been placed around Mount Oldonyo Lengai to monitor tectonic movement of the Earth's crust which has led to a series of tremors in mid-July this year.
The installation of the four sensors, donated by the International Program for Physical Science of Sweden, was done by the Geological Survey of Tanzania, according to reports by local broadsheet newspaper Daily News on Wednesday.
The four sensors were worth 280,000 U.S. dollars in all.
Earth tremors measuring 4.4 to 6.1 for magnitude on the Richter scale rocked northern Tanzania and southern Kenay between July 11 and 20.
All the tremors were traced to Mount Oldonyo Lengai as the epicenter, the world's only known active natrocarbonatite volcano.
Mountain climbers and volcanists have witnessed the mountain spewing ashes, lava and smoke in the past few weeks.
The government of Tanzania has set up a no-go zone with a radius of 50 kilometers around Mount Oldonyo Lengai, for the safety of both human beings and livestock animals.
