The technical preparation meeting for the 5th Latin American and Caribbean-European Union (LAC-EU) Summit, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, began Tuesday.
The two-day preparation meeting aims to elaborate the text of the Lima Declaration, expected to be signed Friday by the heads of state or government attending the summit.
The text will be revised on Thursday by foreign ministers of both blocs.
The declaration will focus on anti-poverty measures, social cohesion and environmental protection, diplomatic officials said.
Peru has boosted security ahead of the summit, with some 50,000troops already being deployed in the capital and in the province of Callao, some 14 km away.
The biyearly meeting is expected to bring together some 60 leaders from the two regions to address issues of mutual concern. Source:Xinhua
