Two schools were shut down Tuesday morning in western Canada after a shooting took place near the schools, reports reaching Ottawa said.
The shooting happened about a block from Peterson Road Elementary and a few blocks from D.W. Poppy High School in the city of Langley in the province of British Columbia, Langley School District spokesman Craig Spence said.
The shooting took place just as the high school was starting its teaching day about 8:15 a.m.. No details about the shooting are available so far. Local police is still investigating the event.
School shooting has been on the rise in Canada in recent years. In Sept. 13, 2006, in one of the deadliest such attacks, two were killed and 19 injured when a young man opened fire randomly in a building at Dawson College in Montreal. A teenager died in May this year after he was shot in a high school in Toronto.
