City volunteers and the social volunteers of the Beijing Paralympics began their duties on September 1, 2008.
Starting September 1, the social volunteers will serve people with disabilities in crucial areas such as subways, buses and parks. Meanwhile, city volunteers will provide services at 550 volunteer service stations in Beijing.
These volunteers received systematic training focusing on skills necessary to help people with disabilities, before they began their work. City volunteers are trained around the concepts of "Transcendence, Equality, Integration"
