Warner Bros.' 3-D horror "The Final Destination" managed to land at the top of box office in North America for a second weekend, taking in 12.4 million dollars over the three-day period, showed preliminary figures released Sunday.

The movie, which tells about people who survive a deadly race track collapse eventually die in a series of horrific accidents, is the fourth installment of a franchise that describes the unescapable human destiny of death. It has racked up a total of 47.6 million dollars in the continent since its release last week.

Hollywood's summer season ended this Labor Day weekend in the U.S. as studios saw a record box office revenues in their backyard for the lucrative season.

Ticket sales in U.S. and Canada for the summer season, which began May 1, reached 4.2 billion dollars on Wednesday, about 1 percent higher than that in summer 2007 when the previous record was set.

Meanwhile, romantic comedy "All About Steve," a new release from 20th Century Fox starring Sandra Bullock, opened in the number two slot with 11.2 million dollars over the weekend.

Last week's runner-up, Quentin Tarantino's World War II film "Inglourious Basterds," slipped one spot to No.3 with 10.8 million dollars. The film about revenge-seeking Jewish soldiers wrecking havoc in Hitler's Germany has took in 91 million dollars during its three-week run.

Rounding out the top five films in North America over the weekend are "Gamer," an action from Liongate debuting with 9 million dollars, and "District 9" with 7 million dollars. The Sony/Tri-Star sci-fi action has earned over 100 million dollars over four weeks.
