A questionnaire survey on the travel spending habits of 2,226 tourists in the Asian-Pacific region was conducted as part of a tourism survey commissioned by Visa. Survey results show that on their last trip, South Korean and Chinese tourists spent most money on purchasing duty-free goods, spending an average 358 U.S. dollars and 333 U.S. dollars respectively, which is over 100 U.S. dollars more than the average for the region. Hong Kong tourists rank third with an average expenditure of 224 U.S. dollars.

According to the survey, duty-free shops are most frequently patronized by tourists in the Asia-Pacific region from Japan (73 percent), South Korea (71 percent) and China (49 percent), and South Korean and Chinese tourists are the two biggest spenders in the region.
