China's first professional Muay Thai event, Battlefield XI "Supremacy", is to be held at the China World Hotel in Beijing on November 11.
"As the first and only professional Muay Thai fighting event in China, sanctioned by the World Professional Muay Thai Federation (WPMF), Battlefield XI presents you some of the best fighters from all over the world. Twenty competitors from seven countries including China, Thailand, US, Philippines and Italy will attend the coming event," the event president Frank Gao said during a news conference in Beijing on Thursday.
The international bouts will attract fighters such as world Muay Thai champion Ponsak from Thailand, Sanda Kickboxing World Cup champion Christian Macia from France and China's top fighters including China's first and only professional female Muay Thai star, Xu Aihui.
Gao also announced that the proceeds of the event will be donated to the China Children and Teenagers Foundation (CCTF) to help Chinese orphans.
Vince Soberano from the US, who has won eight world Muay Thai championship titles, appeared at the news conference and will fight American Bryon Schnell from King of the Cage, at the event.
He told the media, "I feel honored to be here with the rest of the fighters and it is one of the reasons I took the decision to fight at this event, because like the others, I want to contribute to the children of China, and of course I also really like to fight!"
Muay Thai (Thai Boxing), Thailand's national sport, is a centuries-old kickboxing style that incorporates knee and elbow strikes.
