If you think a pair of spectacles will turn you into "Ugly Betty", you're wrong.
Not all eyeglasses are black-rimmed and out of date. Ray-Ban and Vogue, two of the best-known eyewear brands, have launched their latest series of eyeglasses this month. Both of the brands' new lines are specifically designed for Chinese.
The two cooperated to discover the differences between Asian and European customers. Most Asian people have lower nose bridges than Westerners. In addition, their faces also tend to be rounder and slightly broader. So Chinese wearers of American and European eyeglasses are more likely to feel uncomfortable because of extra pressure on their nose bridges and temples.
The latest Ray-Ban and Vogue China Collection boasts a series of specially made designs, making them more comfortable for Asians.
Compared with European and American versions, the frame width of the China Collection glasses has been increased by 5 mm.
Chinese people also have flatter faces, so a lowered frame is introduced in this collection to match the wearers' face shape and allow the glasses to protrude less.
If you have ever lost your eyeglasses while playing basketball, that's because the glasses don't have a good nose pad.
In the new collections, the nose pads are made thicker and raised to suit the facial features of Chinese customers, while keeping the frame from dropping off. They are comfortable too; these widened pads reduce pressure on the nose.
The new eyeglasses not only give comfort but also create a more fashionable appearance. Ray-Ban still has its vintage look - narrower, with simple colors. Its black-and-red frame can make the wearer feel confident about appearance.
