The coastal city of Zhoushan in east China's Zhejiang province held a mass celebration on November 18 to mark the 600th anniversary of its Shenjiamen fishing harbour, also the largest fishing port in China.

Shenjiamen, located at the junction of the Yangtze, Qiantang and Yongjiang rivers, is known as one of the three world's most popular fishing ports, along with Callao Port in Peru and Bergen Harbor in Norway.

Shenjiamen, first built in 1409 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), has been known as a fishing harbour and a commercial town. Thanks to its geographical advantages, the natural harbor with abundant fishing resources has also made it possible for the city of Zhoushan to become a marine product distribution center in China.
