English, computer science, law graduates have toughest time finding jobs

English, computer science and law have topped a list of majors with the most unemployed graduates for three consecutive years, according to a report released on June 2.

The "2010 Annual Report on the Employment of Chinese College Graduates," compiled by the MyCOS Institute and published by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was released on June 2. According to the report, the employment rate of 2009 graduates half a year after graduation stood at nearly 87 percent, 1 percent higher than that of graduates in 2008.

The blue book collected data through surveys given mainly to college graduates in 2009. The survey had a sample size of about 500,000 as well as 220,000 valid questionnaires.

The blue book also reveals that demand is increasing for "green majors," which have the highest salaries and employment rates. These include geological engineering; harbor, water channels and coastal engineering; naval architecture and ocean engineering and petroleum engineering.
