Indonesia's state-run railway company PT Keteta Api (PTKA) on Thursday launched exclusive carriages for women to meet mounting demands from women consumers.
PTKA Director Ignasius Jonan said that two compartments will be initially available for women in each commuter train from the capital Jakarta to Bogor, West Java.
"Similar service will be available in more trains with more destinations," Jonan said.
He said that PTKA assigns female security officers in each train to stop men from trying to board the air-conditioned carriages with a capacity of 120 passengers each.
Children are allowed aboard with their mothers, he added.
