After making her American TV debut on The Oprah Winfrey Show last year and being nominated at the 52nd Grammy Awards in the Best New Age Category in January, Chinesesinger Jane Zhang's future looks bright as she prepares for a performance in Beijing Saturday.
Believe in Jane is Zhang's new world concert tour that will kick off at Wukesong Arena.
Covering hip-hop, jazz, rock and soundtracks that Zhang has recorded for Painted Skin and Mulan, her concert will also feature songs from her latest release Believe in Jane.
"The album is a continuation of my signature style… but it also draws on Western influences, infusing Jazz and rock into Chinese music," Zhang told the Global Times in between her hectic rehearsal schedule. She said that her new concert is both bold and glamorous.
Starting with electronic track "Hit," the two-hour show will feature 28 songs, half of which are fast. "I have lost five kilograms practicing my dancing!" Zhang exclaimed. "I hope to set myself free on stage and have fun with the audience."
"My shows in Hong Kong and Sydney will be slightly different, with the addition of three of my Chinese songs in English," she said. "There will be only one cover, 'Crazy in Love' by Beyonc."
In 2005, Zhang's appearance on talent show Super Girls shot her to stardom and she recently teamed up with Academy Award-winning Chinese conductor Tan Sun and renowned US composer Quincy Jones for 2010 World Expo in Shanghai's theme song, "Better City, Better Life."
Zhang was named China's top female vocalist twice at the Chinese Music Awards and is signed with Universal Music. She has collaborated with some of the world's most celebrated artists including David Foster, Andrea Bocelli and Kitaro.
