If somebody were to ask, "What kind of woman is happiest in China?" there is now a standard answer. The women aged approximately 50 years with a disposable income of about 4,000 yuan a month, possess a bachelor’s degree and live in the city of Qingdao are the happiest among the women in China.
The "Blue Book on Women's Livelihoods" and the results of the "Fifth Survey on the Quality of Life of China's Urban Women" were published on Aug. 31, 2010. According to the survey, the things that urban women are most concerned with are inflation, high housing prices and low family income.
Women of China magazine and the Huakun Women's Life Survey Center carried out the "Fifth Survey on the Quality of Life of China's Urban Women" between August and October of 2009. The survey was launched in the 10 cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Harbin, Changsha, Lanzhou, Zhenzhou, and Qingdao, covering the different economic levels of eastern, central and western regions of China.
A total of 1,074 valid questionnaires were returned out of the 1,200 that were distributed, representing a valid recovery rate of nearly 90 percent. The questionnaires covered several tracing samples too, and 462,894 pieces of data were obtained in total.
Regarding urban women's sense of happiness, this survey shows that the family is the source of women's happiness.
The age structure of the survey shows that interviewees between 51 and 60 years old recorded the highest points of subjective sense of happiness.
The income structure shows that interviewees who have a disposable income of between 4,000 and 4,500 yuan per month recorded the highest points of subjective sense of happiness, which is 60 points.
The education background structure shows interviewees with a bachelor's degree recorded 50.7 points of subjective sense of happiness, higher than other interviewees.
By comparing the sense of happiness of the women living in the 10 cities, it was found that the subjective sense of happiness of women living in Qingdao, Zhengzhou and Hangzhou ranked in the top-three.
