The 62nd Edinburgh international Festival will be held from 8 August to 31 August in Edinburgh, beautiful capital city of Scotland, according to information released during the joint press conference held by the Singapore Arts Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival in Singapore on Friday, June 13.

This year's festival features many unique concert collaborations in addition to 3 world premiers, 2 European premieres, 10 UK premiers and new productions of well known works. Its programme explores political, psychological, geographical, physical and cultural borders and notions of contemporary.

"I believe that festivals are journeys; journeys to inspired us about our place in the world and our role as human beings. I hope that you will find your own way through this Festival, charting your own path and creating your own journey," Jonathan Mills, director of the International Festival, said during the press conference.

"The Edinburgh International Festival was founded in 1947 in the aftermath of a devastating war, as an optimistic expression of what European could be. It owes its origins to an imperative to rebuild a sense of community in a continent which hand torn itself apart; to restore hope to shattered lives through music, opera, drama, and dance", added the director.

In support of shared interests in expanding artistic visions and dialogue in building global cultural bridges, in particular between Asia and Europe, the Singapore Arts Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival hereby established a Strategic Alliance to promote the artistic co-operation and collaboration.
