The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government awarded on Monday a contract to design and provision Hong Kong's exhibition at the Urban Best Practices Area (UBPA) at the World Exposition 2010 Shanghai China.

Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology) of Hong Kong Duncan Pescod, and Chief Executive Officer of Pico Far East Holdings Ltd Lawrence Chia signed the contract.

Under the contract, Pico will provide detailed design and construction, content, set-up, online virtual platform, operations, maintenance and dismantling services.

The theme of Hong Kong's UBPA Exhibition is "Smart Card, Smart City, Smart Life", which complements the Shanghai Expo theme of "Better City, Better Life".

The exhibition will be innovative and highly interactive. Simulation devices, multi-media technology, animation and videos will be used to enhance the visitor experience.

The exhibition will highlight Hong Kong's strengths in connectivity, creativity and innovation by demonstrating the successful and extensive use of smart card technology in daily city life.

Construction work and exhibition set-up will be completed by early March 2010, while the exhibition will be shown to the public on Expo opening day on May 1, 2010.

Some 239 countries and international organizations will take part in the Shanghai Expo, which is expected to attract more than 70 million visitors.
