The Taiwan External Trade Development Council announced on Aug. 30 that the reserve price of the Taiwan Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo is close to 417 million Taiwan dollars, and the bidding for the Taiwan Pavilion began the same day.
At the same time, the winning bidder will receive nearly 200 million Taiwan dollars worth of hardware and software from the Taiwan Pavilion as gifts, according to a report by the Taiwan-based Broadcasting Corporation of China.
The council said that the articles to be sold by bidding are the rights to use the four trademarks of the pavilion – Daytime View Picture of the Taiwan Pavilion, Night View Picture of the Taiwan Pavilion, digital sky lanterns and the mountain-like appearance of the pavilion as well as the pavilion's logo. The winning bidder will have the rights to build similar pavilions on the islands of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu.
The winning bidder will also receive valuable gifts including the Xiangyun metal wall, the LED Dome Light System, the movie and music system of the "Natural City" with omnimax, the lantern-flying platform and the interactive system. The council conservatively estimated that the value of these gifts will reach nearly 200 million Taiwan dollars. In addition, the winning bidder will also be authorized to permanently use some software such as the 3D virtual reality application for the online Taiwan Pavilion for free.
