The first French film festival kicks off on Tuesday in the town of Ohrid, Macedonia's lakeside tourist resort, about 190 kilometers southwest of the capital city of Skopje.
The film "Life in Pink," directed by Olivier Dahan, will mark the start of the festival, and a total of 11 features and 4 short films will be screened during the five-day event from July 1 to 5.
A "lakeside meeting" will be held during the festival. Seven renowned French film producers and seven Balkan producers will gather together to discuss cooperation between them on film production.
Awards will be presented for best movie, life achievement, best actor, best actress and best script, selected by an international jury, chaired by Macedonian director Antonio Mitrikeski.
Organizers intend to make the event into a world-renowned film festival, and turn Ohrid into a global film center side by side with Venice, Cannes and Berlin.
The festival is organized by the Macedonian Ministry of Culture, Paris-based High School for Audio Visual Realization, Skopje-based European Film Academy, the French Foreign Ministry, the French Embassy in Macedonia, Skopje's French Cultural Center, as well as Ohrid local authorities.
The start of this year's event coincides with the beginning of France's six-month rotating EU Presidency on June 1. Source: Xinhua
