Toronto film festival expects 300 participating movies this fall

Woody Allen's comic ensemble piece of Londoners, Tran Anh Hung's screen presentation of the best- selling novel "Norwegian Wood," and John Cameron Mitchell's narration of a couple's fight to save their marriage after a tragedy are among the debuts bound for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this fall.

More than 300 "best international and Canadian films" are expected to be on screen from Sept. 10 to 19, said Piers Handling, Director and CEO of TIFF, on Tuesday.

"The richness and diversity of this year's Galas and Special Presentations programs reflect the abundance of exciting works from established and emerging filmmakers in the world of cinema," said Handling.

"We are honored that filmmakers choose our Festival to premiere their films to the world," said Cameron Bailey, Co-Director of the TIFF. "We look forward to introducing these films to Toronto audiences -- the most informed and enthusiastic filmgoers in the world."

The Festival's Galas and Special Presentations programs will feature premieres of films from countries and regions around the world including Chad, Denmark, France, China's Hong Kong, India, the Republic of Korea, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Organizers also revealed a taste of some of the big-name features on the way this September, touting high-profile projects featuring the likes of Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Ben Affleck, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Ewan McGregor, and Ryan Reynolds.

The festival runs from Sept. 9 through Sept. 19 and marks its 35th anniversary this year.
