Vietnam's central Nghe An Province has reported about 687 cases of dengue fever so far and local health officials are worried the disease will spread further, the Vietnam News reported on Tuesday.
Mosquitoes are the main cause of the disease, which is dangerous for babies and overweight children. It can lead to respiratory and digestive problems, the provincial health department said.
The local weather and living conditions has created favorable breeding environment for mosquitoes, according to the department.
Local authorities are taking measures to wipe out the disease, including dredging sewerage and spraying chemicals to stamp out the mosquito population.
