Philippine president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will begin on Tuesday a four-day self-quarantine following her recent overseas trip to A/H1N1 flu-devastated areas, a government spokesman said.
Arroyo, who returned Monday night from working trips to Japan and Brazil with side trips to the United States, Colombia and China's Hong Kong, will continue working but out of public view until Friday, Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said in a radio interview.
The President decided to go on self-quarantine, rest and have a check-up as well, despite she has yet developed flu-like symptoms, Remonde said.
Arroyo scrapped her scheduled domestic visits this week due to the self-quarantine, officials with the presidential palace said.
The Philippines, however, is also badly affected by the novel virus. According to the health department, more than 700 people have been tested positive for A/H1N1 Influenza virus since mid-May, but over 80 percent of the patients have recovered.
