FIFA coach: strong mentality to help Zambia beat South Africa

FIFA soccer instructor and Zambia's former national team coach Jochen Figge said self-belief will do Zambia good in Sunday's Africa Cup qualifier against South Africa.

Zambia Daily Mail Friday quoted him as saying here that Zambia's soccer standards will only improve if the Zambia Football Coaches Association (ZAFCA) program to train and grade coaches became a reality.

Figge, who is in the country to conduct a 10-day coaching course starting Monday in Lusaka, said that Zambia needs a strong approach and mentality towards the game if they are to beat South Africa in Cape Town because South Africans are expecting Bafana Bafana to triumph on Sunday.

Figge said the game between two sides is a crucial one but it is only self-confidence that will help Zambia triumph.

He urged the Chipolopolo never to look down upon themselves but keep their heads high.

South Africa is leading Group 11 on 11 points, three better than Zambia. Figge said Zambia has chances of winning because the coaching bench has all the material needed for the game.

He said that Zambia's good program involving age-group national teams will help the team become power house in Africa.

He said the training coaches and the grading program by ZAFCA will help improve the game.

He urged coaches to concentrate on teaching players before talking about money. "If you put money first, it's better you go probably and look for a job somewhere as a waiter or something else. You should first have interest in teaching the boys," he said.
