Medvedev says he may run for president again

MOSCOW, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday he did not rule out the possibility of running for president again in future.

Speaking to students at Moscow State University, Medvedev said he could run for president "some time in future" and would not leave the political life regardless of the results of the presidential elections in March.

"I have never said that I would not stand again. I recall that I am only 46," he said, "But this time I have definitely decided no to stand."

Medvedev noted that power has always been secondary for him. "But this does not mean power is not interesting for me." he said.

Still, he added, he is not going to abandon politics.

"I do not know what is going to happen in May (after power transition). But whatever they say, Vladimir Putin needs to be elected once again, and if he succeeds, I will likely become the government head. If not, I will work for my homeland somewhere," Medvedev said.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is running for president in this year's elections while Medvedev agreed to head the ruling United Russia's list for parliamentary elections.
