The “Batman” shooting in Colorado reflects the nonfeasance of U.S. gun control system.
The long-standing systemic nonfeasance in the United States is partly attributed to the fact that the voters who own guns are able to destroy the political future of the politician criticizing the weak gun control system. More importantly, it is also due to the routine defense given by U.S. politicians and pro-gun interest groups.
According to the National Rifle Association of America, the gun itself should not be blamed since it could be either a weapon for self-defense or a hunting tool for entertainment.
Pro-gun politicians do not only emphasize that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects the basic right of the people to keep and bear arms, but also demonstrate their opinions by facts. For example, the Republican senator John McCain said that there is a strict gun control system in Norway, but Anders Breivik still managed to get guns and created a massacre. Therefore, there is no direct connection between the strict gun control system and reduction and prevention of shooting massacres.
The core of the defense is the idea that “personal freedom responsibility are of overriding importance”. In other words, an individual's success or loss, goodness or evilness is solely decided by personal efforts and choices and has nothing to do with the surrounding groups and environment. Accordingly, the responsibility should be taken by the individual himself.
