The Mogilev oblast is located in the Eastern part of Belarus and borders with the Smolensk and Bryansk oblasts of Russia. It stretches 150 km from north to south, and over 300 km from west to east. The region unites 21 administrative districts (raions).
Forests cover over 30 percent of the territory. Here the Berezina and the Dnieper valleys lowland oak forests have survived practically in a state of nature. Over 100 species of birds and about 70 species of mammals inhabit the forests. National and local hydrological reserves are located in the region.
