
MINSK, Sept.24 (Xinhua) -- The Belarusian parliamentary election was democratic and held "fully in compliance with the national legislation,"
the head of the CIS monitoring mission said here Monday.
Speaking at a press conference, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev said the election was a sign of the maturity of Belarusian society.
"I saw the election was calm and people were voting rather actively. These two things are interrelated: they are a proof of the high maturity of civil society in this country," he said.
Vladimir Churov, head of the Russian Central Elections Commission, was another CIS observer of the Sunday election. He said he was content with the election, adding no one complained about major voting irregularities.
